What is QuattroPole?
QuattroPole is a network of four cities of comparable size and close proximity to each other: Luxembourg, Metz, Saarbrücken and Trier.
Cooperation within the city network reflects the openness of the four cities to their European neighbors - a development reinforced by their location at the center of the Greater Region. It shows their willingness to cooperate even more closely to further European integration.
An association with concrete objectives and projects
The QuattroPole city network was born in 2000 with the signing of a declaration of intent between the cities of Luxembourg, Metz, Saarbrücken and Trier. To deepen this cooperation, the four mayors founded an association registered under German law in October 2014.
The aim of the cooperation is to develop joint political strategies and enable regular exchange between administrations, in order to promote the development of the four cities by pooling their potential.
The aim is to combat the separating effects of borders for some 530 000 people in the four QuattroPole towns, and to develop a common awareness. To this end, the four towns are helping to implement concrete projects from a cross-border perspective. Examples include a joint tourist guide, the QuattroPole music prize, a practical guide and a tourist map for cycling in the four towns.
The city of Saarbrücken and QuattroPole
Saarbrücken’s mayor and president of QuattroPole in 2023/2024, Uwe Conradt, and his counterparts from Metz, Trier and Luxembourg form the QuattroPole association's steering committee. The steering committee defines the strategic direction of the cooperation. The secretary at the Maison de la Grande Région in Esch-sur-Alzette is responsible for the association's administration, and coordinates work between the political bodies and thematic project groups.
Two members of employees from Saarbrücken, the state capital, support the QuattroPole office and are available to answer any questions you may have about the city network.
